ARTIST STATEMENT: "Phish in New York automatically implies new years. But while this character appeared on my paper, she reminded me that feminism is in the air in 2018 and no doubt 2019. While it sometimes seems like an up hill battle, there is a sense that we are in fact moving up hill. This was called to my attention when I read that there were efforts being made by the live music community to make the scene a safer place for women. Getting groped in a large group of anonymous people in a party atmosphere is not new to any scene. But the jam scene in particular is taking steps to educate and band together because we simply feel that we can do better. Not just the bands or the venues, but fans as a whole. I first learned of the effort in a phish post but it's larger than that. This is where huddled masses come to dance like idiots, dress however they want, and always feel welcome. So keep that torch lit, Libby. May you find a safe harbor to funk out as beautiful as you are, you precious goddess phreek."
