Artist Statement

I lived in Phoenix AZ from 2003-2006. I would often take my motorcycle through Sedona which, in my opinion, is more beautiful than the Grand Canyon. I climbed Cathedral Rock on two occasions and spent as much time there as I could. It was these megaliths that first helped me develop this particular art style. I was influenced by the very process which made the structures. Drastic motion creates a shape which gives way to a new drastic motion, and then the details fill in around it. On the Earth, that means water freezing and bursting rocks off of a cliff, creating a new shape for the elements to take hold of. On paper, it's a drastic colorful stroke which gives a new shape for the next colorful stroke to conform to. It takes the land millions of years and fortunately less time for me to do it on paper. But the idea is the same.
