ASHFIELD MA SERIES

Released: May 2018 for exhibited at Elmer's in Ashfield MA
Artist Statement

When you hear someone refer to the "Hilltowns" of Western MA, they are speaking of the counties north of the pike, west of the river, and about 1,000 feet higher. Many would consider Ashfield to be sort of the capital of the enchanted Hilltown kingdom. For someone who grew up not really appreciating quiet little communities, this town sucked me in. I originally found it when my band was hired to play at Elmer's. This is a breakfast joint and tiny grocery story by day and a make shift dance hall whenever the owner felt like it. I couldn't believe how hard these farmers danced. My drummer and I were both in relationships with Ashfield natives (they were sisters actually) which brought us to the Fall Festival, apple orchards, and secret hiking spots that I wouldn't have known otherwise. We later performed in the town hall and paraded to an after party at Elmer's. Everyone knows each other. Everyone's cool. I kept finding myself there.

Later in life, I started spending a majority of my time in Ashfield with a special someone and her adorable family. The people are just different. They're connected to the land in an old fashion way but they're progressive and open in a way that other familiar places have yet to catch up. Most of these drawings were done while sitting by the wood stove burning Ashfiled wood, eating Ashfield grown food, smoking Ashfield grown weed, and laughing with beautiful Ashfield grown people who would tell me endless stories about these places.
